Shiny Happy Smart People

So yesterday, I made the dough for these thumbprint cookies and these vanilla crescents and this afternoon, I baked them off.

I used cherry preserves in the thumbprints, because that is what I had, and I didn't bother with rolling them in sugar before baking. If you want a thumbprint cookie, this is a good one! They mostly held their shape and contained the 1/2 tsp of preserves I put in each. I did take a picture but then I didn't upload it. *hands*

The vanilla crescents, on the other hand, were a bust. I mean, they taste fine, but they are a pretty basic shortbread cookie that I found much too crumbly to bend into crescents, so after the first couple of failed attempts, I just sliced and baked them. They're fine, but I have other shortbread recipes I like better. *hands*

I also, in an attempt to start clearing out the freezer, made 2 boneless chicken thighs for dinner last night, and today I marinated some pork chops and baked them so I can use them tomorrow for pork fried rice.

My left arm, where I got my vaccinations yesterday, feels like a big bruise, but I had no other effects - in the past sometimes I get a fever overnight, but that didn't happen this time. *knock wood*

I also received a video of Baby Miss L playing with her Buzz Lightyear doll action figure, and one of her on a horse, like Woody, so we are deep into Toy Story right now I guess. Still probably gonna be a pirate for Halloween though.

As previously mentioned, I was off work yesterday and today, and as frequently happens these days, I lost track of what day it was, so when I looked at the Rangers' schedule, i was like, "yeah, the home opener is tomorrow (Thursday)" so I put on football (which I knew was also Thursday night, so I don't know where the disconnect in my head happened), and didn't realize the Rangers were playing until angelgazing texted me about Igor Shesterkin's GOALIE GOAL!!!! We love to see it! He is now tied for leading scorer on the team! 🤣🤣🤣 And after last year's goalie fight, he is surely an all-time Ranger! Whatever else happens, that will be a highlight of the season! Woo! Durzi scores! It's a power play goal!!!

Anyway, when I made my appointment for my covid and flu shots, CVS offered the option to also get the RSV shot, so I said yes. When I got there today, though, they were like, "were you recommended to take it?" and I said, "no, but it was offered so I figured I would." And the pharmacist was like, "Well, unless your doctor recommended it, you're too young." And I haven't been too young for something in a long time, so I will take it (or not, in the case of the RSV shot). Last year it took so long (their computers were down or something, iirc), so I was prepared to wait for a while, but I walked in at 10:25 am and walked out at 10:35 am, so that worked out.

In an effort to test out some cookie recipes, I made the dough for some vanilla crescent cookies and for some thumbprints. Both needed to be refrigerated, so I will bake them off tomorrow and report back.

Yesterday's board meeting went well, even though I ended up not going in person due to persistent nausea and other stomach troubles. Bleh. As much as I appreciated not having to schlep, I also did not like not being in the room at certain points, even though Assistant J did well.

And now I'm off today and tomorrow - I have historically tried to take the day off after these meetings but it hasn't always worked out. Recently, my boss suggested it as something we should do regularly, so I took her at her word (and I have the time) so... yeah.

This morning, I had my follow-up appointment with the optometrist, and before she dilated my eyes again, she did that thing where they take a picture of the back of your eye? And lo and behold, this time she could see the spot I had been talking about and she showed it to me on the picture, and I was like, "yes! that is the shape!" Weirdly, I had stopped seeing it very often after the last time she dilated my eyes back in August - I still see it occasionally, mostly when my right eye is closed and my left eye is open, which is not something I do except to see if the spot is still there. Then she dilated my eyes and did all the bright lights - so much so that i actually cried, which has never happened to me before (and for which she apologized profusely) - and was like, "yes, I can see it now, it was probably too small back in August - you'd said it had just started?" and I was like, "yeah, about a week before my appointment."

She said there was no sign of any kind of tear or hole in the retina, and that it is likely just a floater - that as the eye ages, the collagen in the vitreous can clump sometimes, and that is what a floater is. *hands* My dad had them also, so it may also be hereditary. Anyway, I have to go back in February for another follow-up to keep an eye on it. (and if it gets worse, many more show up, etc. I should go back earlier.)

I did ask about the field of vision test, as mentioned by serricoj, and the doctor said that would have been the next step if we hadn't identified the floater, but she'd have had to refer me out to an ophthamologist for it, so I'm glad it wasn't that.

So that is a relief.
