Exercise: I had a good ride this week (Tuesday? Wednesday? damned if I know) on the bike path just past Trader Joe's and back again. Considering I'm watching two bike races (the Vuelta a Espana and the USA Pro Cycling Challenge, you'd think that I'd ride more, but watching them takes up the day. I've been exercising daily, mostly walks outside or marching/dancing in front of the TV, which works but looks really dumb, so I do it when I'm alone.

Knitting: I started a cardigan for myself two weeks ago today, finished it yesterday. Thirteen days. Wow. I have to weave in the ends and block it and get and sew on the buttons, but otherwise, DONE. Sort of amazed about it, really. Now I'm working on a cardigan for Greg from the yarn I bought him in January, 2007 (remember when I ordered it from Newbury Yarns on our visit there, [livejournal.com profile] gnomi?) per his request. His new office is very cold.

Hurricane Irene: We have water and beer and scotch and wine (the water being the most important, I know) and have taken in or fastened down anything that might decide to fly away in high winds and have stocked up on food and put new batteries into the only radio that works without electricity at need. I have knitting to do, and we have guitars and dulcimers and mandolins to play, and I am not freaking out as badly as I feared. Still time for that, though.

I took Greg out to Chez Henri last night, and we had a lovely decadent dinner (2 glasses of cava; a bottle of Lucien Crochet Sancerre with the meal; cucumber and radish salad; pan-seared cod with faro pilaf, citrus beurre blanc, and cooked greens; coconut-lime panna cotta with blackberries and a glass of Muscadet dessert wine for me; grilled shrimp with ancho chile and other good spicy stuff; swordfish with a boudin of corn aka corn cake and wax beans; dark chocolate espresso cake with espresso ice cream and a a glass of some rum that the waitress assured us was great, but Greg didn't like so much). Wonderful time. I love that man so much.

Stay safe, my friends, whether you'll have to deal with the hurricane or not. Stay safe.

You stay safe too, chere amie. Make sure the bath tub is filled with water too. If you have time and don't have much cash on hand, hit the ATM. I'm sure you read [livejournal.com profile] docbrite's LJ. Who ever thought we'd need to stock up on toilet paper!

And you finished your sweater! {{{Gail}}}

Take care!

Thank you so much for your fine advice, chere amie. Yes, I do read [livejournal.com profile] docbrite, and I'm glad that I do. We had a couple of big buckets filled with water in the bathtub - couldn't fill the bathtub since the drain doesn't close, and we did get to the ATM and took out a bunch of money, which we didn't need and now will use as weekly money as long as it lasts, which is good. We forgot about extra toilet paper, but we had four rolls (and still do), so we were fine. No power outages for us and only some scary winds.

I don't like the sweater much right now, but that's normal, and I'll get over it once I've had some time away and stop seeing all the little things I didn't do just right. I promise. Thank you for rejoicing about it. {{{Tinn}}}

Thank you so much, G dear. I'm a lucky and happy woman, and I'm working on remembering that and living in the best way I can. :-D

Thank you. :-) We didn't get hit at all badly - no power outages, no flooding in the basement, only some scary winds. I hope that all went well with you through the storm too.

That's good to hear. :)

We had some leaks in the basement, but we got it all pumped out and patched okay and nothing was damaged.

It's good to hear that from you too. :-) Leaks are no fun, but no damage is very good!

Oh, all I heard about was New York. I didn't know it was bad enough to reach you, too. Stay safe! :)

Thank you, Mareen. We did stay safe. It wasn't half as bad here as they'd predicted, thank goodness!

I'm glad to read you have all your storm supplies prepared. I wrote a note to my ex-husband who lives in NYC. He said they were well prepared. His greatest concern was that if the power goes out they will miss the new episode of DR Who. I think he and his family will do fine.

Thank you. :-) The storm didn't mess with us really at all, but I was glad to be prepared, and thus not worry as much as I might have otherwise. I hope that your ex-husband and his family did do fine and didn't miss the new episode of Doctor Who, and I hope that you're doing well too. :-)

Thanks for the good wishes - things are not bad. I sold a third story to Innsmouth Free Press which will be out in December - I think. The publisher told me this week that they are commissioning illustrations for four of the stories and one of these is mine - so I'm really chuffed. The 2nd anthology, 'Candle in an Attic Window' with my story, I Tarocchi dei d'Este' is out 20 September, so it's a busy time.

Congratulations on the story sales and illustrations! That's wonderful. :-) I'll have to see if I can find 'Candle in an Attic Window' anthology in my local bookstore. Maybe they'll order it for me. I'm looking forward to reading your story, and then later the story in the anthology coming out in December.
